Plastic Orchid Factory’s artistic endeavours unfold on the unceded, ancestral, and traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and səlil̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) peoples. We recognize the historical and systemic oppression that Indigenous communities face across Turtle Island, and work to integrate practices and protocols that acknowledge the legacy of colonial oppression.

Plastic Orchid Factory (POF) is an artist-run organization dedicated to the creation, development and presentation of contemporary performance. Rooted in choreographic practice, our work lives at the intersections of dance, theatre, sound, visual art, media and technology. We create and support work that is curious about form, attentive to the body, and willing to move beyond established disciplinary and institutional boundaries.
Our mandate is both artistic and ecological. Alongside creating and touring our own work, we provide independent artists with meaningful resources, time, space and technical support to research, experiment, make and share work on their own terms. We are particularly interested in practices that sit at the periphery of mainstream presentation structures while making vital contributions to contemporary performance.
At the centre of POF’s ethos is a belief that how work is made matters as much as what is ultimately presented. We value curiosity over certainty, process over predetermined outcomes, and sustained relationships over transactional exchange. Artists retain agency over their practices while having access to the conditions needed to pursue ambitious ideas.
Our work is guided by generosity, reciprocity, rigour, experimentation and care. We understand artistic practice as a form of inquiry: a place to listen, test propositions, encounter difference and remain open to being changed by the process.
Ultimately, POF exists to make room—for experimentation, complexity, meaningful relationships, and artists pursuing ideas before anyone knows exactly where they will lead.
