Three-Day Indigenous Learning Trip in amiskwaciwâskahikan (Edmonton), Treaty 6 Territory and the Métis Homeland – July 2025
In mid-July, the CanDance community came together in Edmonton for a beautiful Indigenous knowledge-sharing event and Prairie dance ecosystem gathering. Over three days, we were welcomed into the lands of Amiskwaciwâskahikan, guided by Néhiyaw/Cree teachings and the generous spirit of our hosts. We began grounded in the earth at Whitemud Park, participated in wisdom circles with Indigenous dance artists, and stood in the joyful and powerful energy of the Enoch Cree Nation Powwow. On our final day, we gathered for reflection, art-making, and a showcase brimming with the voices, movements, and stories of remarkable Edmonton artists.
Our hosts created a beautiful guidebook to accompany the journey — a keepsake of teachings, places, and people that you can explore here. Our heartfelt thanks to our incredible hosts and partners for crafting such a rich program: Naheyawin, Mile Zero Dance, Brian Webb Dance Company, Josh Languedoc, and Soni Dasmohapatra.
