The Firehall Theatre Society, the non-profit organization that programs and administers the Firehall Arts Centre, is committed to the presentation and production of contemporary dance and theatre reflective of the cultural diversity of Canada. The Centre presents a four event contemporary dance series and co-presents 12 Minutes Max with the Vancouver Dance Centre. It manages the flexible 155-200 seat theatre and is an active producer of contemporary theatre as well as dance.

The aims of the Society through its programming are to provide performance opportunities for local, regional, national and international professional dance artists; to encourage and develop an understanding and appreciation for contemporary, experimental, new dance amongst audiences and artists alike through performances, showcases, workshops and public forums.

The Society's four event dance series can be shared bills or full-length programs of premieres or repertory work. Artists interested in being presented in the series should forward information on the work they wish to have presented along with a videotape of the work to the Firehall. Programming for each season is generally completed approximately eighteen months in advance of the season's first event. If artists wish material to be returned, they should forward a stamped self-addressed envelope. Due to the number of dossiers received, response to submissions may not always be possible.

The Firehall venue is fully equipped and seats between 136 and 200 seats depending on the seating configuration. Stage dimensions vary accordingly, with the proscenium arch 155-seat configuration allowing for a performance area 24 ft. deep and 40 ft. wide.
