Dance Victoria's (DV) mission is to cultivate a connection to dance by presenting and supporting diverse local, national, and international artists, and inspiring all communities through the magic of dance.
Now entering our 29th season, DV presents an annual “Dance at the Royal” Series at the 1,400-seat Royal Theatre. We also curate special presentations at the Royal, McPherson Playhouse, and smaller-scale venues, and engage in co-presentations with local partners. Agreements for visiting artists always include outreach, with a pre- or post-show talk and community masterclass. Total attendance at DV presentations exceeds 15,000 people annually, including approximately 1,200 subscribers. DV is a national industry leader and one of the most prominent dance presenters in Western Canada.
DV manages and is a leaseholder for a facility with three dance studios and administrative offices. DV Studios is home to B.C.-based artists in residence (8-10 each year), smaller-scale performances and showings, and open rehearsals by visiting companies. Dance Victoria regularly commissions new work through the CanDance Creation Fund.
Companies presented as part of Dance Victoria's seasons include the National Ballet of Canada, Toronto Dance Theatre, Kidd Pivot, Ballet BC, Les Ballets Jazz de Montreal, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Royal Winnipeg Ballet, A.I.M by Kyle Abraham, Compagnie Hervé KOUBI, and many more.
