Founded in 2014, Festival of Dance Annapolis Royal (FODAR) is Nova Scotia’s only contemporary dance festival. Led by founder and Artistic Director Randy Glynn, the Festival is co-curated by Randy Glynn, Michael Caldwell and Barbara Diabo. FODAR has grown from a small regional event to become a significant, nationally recognized festival.

What we do

FODAR currently runs for a week every July, presenting mainstage shows at the historic King’s Theatre and outdoor performances (Market Dances) in the town Market Square. The Festival offers a challenging and diverse selection of contemporary dance, showcasing Canadian and international choreographers and artists. FODAR also supports a Creative Dance Residency and offers a variety of outreach events.

Our mission is to encourage the creation of new dance and to present classic works from Canada’s rich modern dance legacy alongside work from today. We are committed to presenting a welcoming and inclusive festival which educates, engages and excites our audience.

Where we are

FODAR takes place in the heart of Nova Scotia’s famed Annapolis Valley in the legendary town of Annapolis Royal – founded 1605. Our main venue, King’s Theatre, has a stage door that opens onto the sea right across from where Samuel de Champlain founded The Order of Good Cheer in 1606.
